Lehigh County Jail is the county's central adult secure facility. It holds people awaiting court action, people serving county sentences, and some federal detainees. That mix makes the word “release” easy to misread. Bail, dismissal, time served, county parole, or expiration of a county sentence may end the jail stay and lead into the community. Yet an administrative departure can also send a person to the Community Corrections Center, a Pennsylvania state correctional institution, another county, a hospital, the United States Marshals Service, the Federal Bureau of Prisons, or ICE custody.
The strongest Lehigh County Jail release record identifies the actual date and time, the disposition code, and any destination or receiving authority that the county lawfully discloses. A court order supplies the legal cause, but processing or another hold can delay the physical exit. PA SAVIN can report a release or movement event, though an alert is not a certified historical record. Build a short timeline from these sources instead of treating one missing name as proof.

Confirm a Lehigh Jail Release
There is no official public Lehigh County roster or recent-release list. The county Department of Corrections, not the Sheriff, operates the jail. For a named person, gather the booked name, date of birth, inmate or booking number if known, arrest date, and docket or OTN. Those identifiers reduce false matches and help Corrections locate the right admission.

- If the entry names another authority, switch to that authority's locator or records office.

Lehigh Jail Release Records
A current operational question can go through the jail inquiry. For a durable copy, use the Lehigh County Right-to-Know process. Ask for an existing record, not a new explanation. A focused request names the person and admission, then seeks the actual release or transfer date and time, disposition code and its definition, and receiving agency or destination if maintained and public. Request electronic copies when practical. Juvenile, medical, safety-sensitive, investigative, sealed, and other protected facts may be withheld or redacted.

The county page also explains email, mail, and drop-off routes and the current fee schedule. Verify the published instructions before filing because personnel and procedures can change.

Lehigh Jail Custody Profile
The present Lehigh County Jail is a maximum-security, direct-supervision adult jail at 38 North Fourth Street in Allentown. Direct supervision describes a custody model with staff working in the residential area. The county's 2024 PREA audit reports a designated capacity of 1,363, 15 residential units, and an average daily population of 797 during the prior twelve months. These figures describe facility scale, not the number of releases.
The facility holds pretrial and county-sentenced people, while its official history also notes federal detention. Each group can leave under a different authority. A county sentence can end locally. A state sentence begins PADOC custody. A federal detainee may leave with USMS, and that person might not yet appear in the BOP locator. Lehigh Jail Name History
Older files may call the site “Lehigh County Prison.” That is not a second current adult jail. The official LCJ history traces the county's custodial lineage to an 1813 lockup and a red-sandstone prison begun in 1867. Overcrowding litigation and consent-decree-era planning led to the modern direct-supervision facility, which opened in May 1992.
The county renamed Lehigh County Prison as Lehigh County Jail in 2014. When a news report, docket note, or older release record uses “Prison,” match the address, date, inmate number, and case rather than assuming a different institution. The historical page states a 1,352-person capacity, while the newer audit gives 1,363. Keep the figures tied to their source dates instead of blending them.
Note: Searching both the former and current names can help locate older records, but all current requests should use Lehigh County Jail.
Lehigh Jail ICE Transfers
An immigration detainer or ICE pickup must remain separate from a community release. Lehigh County has a significant local history on this point. Reporting on the Galarza litigation says the county settled after a person was held beyond posted bail on an ICE detainer and agreed not to continue detention on that basis without judicial authority. Local reporting in June 2026 described county policy as requiring a judge-signed warrant for continued jail detention for ICE. That history explains the distinction, but current practice and any individual case must be verified with the county.
If the LCJ record says ICE pickup, the Lehigh County custody episode ended through transfer. It does not prove release from immigration custody. Search the ICE Online Detainee Locator System with the exact A-number and country of birth, or exact name and country of birth. ODLS has limited current and recent scope. Keep the jail exit and any later ICE exit as two separate events.
After Lehigh Jail Release
Property and funds can create records around departure, but they do not prove community release. Lehigh's inmate guidelines say property left after permanent discharge must be retrieved within 30 days. Property tied to a return from the Community Corrections Center has a 10-day period. A recipient must follow the jail's identification and authorization rules. Account balance distribution may also occur on release or transfer.
County parole or probation can continue after physical release. State parole is different and is supervised by PADOC. A person transferred to CCC remains in a structured county setting, even when approved activities take place in the community. When ongoing supervision matters, compare the sentencing docket with the assigned county or state office. Do not infer full discharge from a locator miss.

For the exit, seek the actual date and time, the disposition code, the code's definition, and the destination or receiving authority if the county maintains and releases it.
Do not assume that the county uses a standard code list merely because terms such as bond, own recognizance, time served, county parole, transfer, writ return, hospitalization, and detainer pickup are common. The public site does not publish an LCJ data dictionary. Ask for the code written on the named record and its maintained definition. If a field is withheld, the response should identify the legal basis as required by the applicable process.
